History of Dilden Brothers Well Drilling
A Legacy of Local Service
In 1932 Albert Dilden started a well drilling business in Dayton, IN where his sons Charles and J.H. (Jude) learned the trade of water well drilling. This was an era when every community had a well driller to take care of the needs of their local residents. Because well drilling equipment was difficult to transport, the service area of most early drillers was limited. The Dilden brothers saw this as an opportunity to become experts on the varied water conditions and challenges of providing plentiful and safe water to their customers in this region. Therefore establishing a legacy of over 75 years of applying experience and knowledge to meeting the needs of their customers who today reside in the Indiana counties of Tippecanoe, Benton, Clinton, Cass, Carroll, Boone, Newton, Jasper, Fountain and White.
A Growing Business
Returning from the service following World War II, Jude and Charles took over the family business upon their father’s retirement. As Dilden Bros. Drilling they expanded their business into the rural areas surrounding Dayton utilizing their growing local expertise. Oil field technology developments made in the 1960’s led to major improvements in equipment and drilling processes that transferred to water well drilling. Jude and Charles capitalized on these new technologies as they expanded their service area to meet the demands of their residential, commercial and agriculture customers.
The Next Set of Brothers
In 1971 Charles retired due to health reasons and in 1985 Jude sold Dilden Bros. Drilling to another set of brothers, Don and Wayne. Jude had been looking for someone with experience in the well drilling industry to continue his company’s record of strong customer service. Both Don and Wayne had been part of a family well drilling business since 1970. Wayne, over a 15 year period, had ventured west and had experience working for three different well drilling firms. Don had over 13 years of industry experience working in the family business around Lafayette, Indiana.
